What’s Your Favorite Sin?
What is it that each of us have, none of us want, and manifests itself differently in every person? Sin! If it wasn’t so, we wouldn’t have needed a savior. On a day to day basis, sin creeps into our lives and often, we don’t even realize it.
Small and subtle ways, sin takes a foothold. We don’t notice, as it is quickly dismissed as personality traits, but we all deal with it. Whether it is anger issues, pride, judging, gossiping, selfishness… the list goes on.
Just this last Sunday I shared a scripture, Matthew 6:22-23 (ESV): “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness!”
When we look in the mirror, who is staring back? Do you like what you see? Are we listening to that subtle, still, quiet voice of the Holy Spirit, as we seek to change certain aspects of our personality, parts of our personality that are displeasing to God?
In September we begin a new worship series “What’s Your Favorite Sin?” Not that any of these are really our “favorite”, but we have gotten so used to them, that they have become just another part of our personality, just who we are. Often, we don’t even recognize them as sin. Some of the most difficult parts of our Christian journey is shining light on the darkest parts of who we are, as we allow the Holy Spirit to reveal the parts of our personalities that are in need of His light.
Hebrews 4:13 (NIV) says “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.” Join us for this eight week worship series. You might just be surprised to discover your favorite sin. – Pastor Anchul
